San Diego-specific gotchas

LEGOLAND is not in San Diego proper. The LEGOLAND hotels sit in Carlsbad, roughly a 35-minute drive from Mission Bay and the zoo. Great as a base for a LEGOLAND trip; a daily commute if your plans are downtown.
A "separate kids' sleeping area" is not a second bedroom. At the LEGOLAND hotels the kids' bunks share the room with the parents' bed. It genuinely sleeps five — just don't picture a door between you and the bunk beds.
Beach-resort base rooms cap at four. At the Mission Bay and Coronado resorts, the fifth spot is a suite, a sofa bed, or a fee-based rollaway. We count only named beds and record rollaway and resort fees where the official site publishes them.
Historic buildings mean uneven room stock. Century-old resorts mix original rooms with modern towers; two rooms with the same name can differ in size and beds. The per-room data on each hotel's page is the category the hotel itself publishes — confirm your exact building at booking.
