London family-of-5 hotels & aparthotels

London is where the family-of-5 problem bites hardest in a hotel: standard rooms are small, and a London "family room" usually means four people, not five. The product that actually works is the aparthotel — a serviced apartment with a kitchen, laundry and separate bedrooms, sold by the unit with a published sleeps count. This is our Europe opener: four established London aparthotel operators, with every unit's occupancy and beds read on the operator's own site, and verdicts for 2 adults + kids 5, 8, 11.

London-specific gotchas

  • "Family room" in London usually means four. London hotel family rooms are typically two adults plus two children. If a room's published maximum is 4, a fifth person is not a negotiation — it is a different unit or a second room.
  • Every guest counts. UK operators publish a hard maximum per unit, and children count toward it unless the operator explicitly says otherwise. Never assume a child "doesn't count" toward occupancy.
  • Compare the unit price, not the room price. An aparthotel is priced per apartment, so the honest comparison is one 2-bedroom apartment versus two hotel rooms — plus the kitchen savings on breakfast and laundry. We never show prices; check the total on the live price link.
  • Sofa beds do the fifth-bed work. In many 1-bedroom apartments the fifth spot is the living-room sofa bed. Where the operator itemizes beds we count them; where it publishes only a sleeps figure, we say so rather than invent a bed list.
